I told Hansen the other day that I didn't think I had many pictures of Dale. Then I remembered my favorite picture of Dale. Sometime during our in-between-colleges phase, we lived together here in Austin. I had an old Polaroid Land Camera with bellows that was my grandmothers. I was in a black and white period of experimentation; Dale was a student of art. One day we started messing around - for the joy of it. I don't remember how we got to this final set-up; surely he suggested it. He was always more cerebral and I was a practitioner. Anyway, he stood in the bathroom in front of the oculus window and I took the picture from the room across the hall. Dale is holding a mirror that is reflecting light from the windows behind me. I will continue to enjoy the magic of that moment and the light that shines through my friend.
